What is Canstruction?

For THOUSANDS on Long Island the day begins and ends with the anguish of hunger. Over 320,000 Long Islanders face hunger each day. Canstruction is determined to end this suffering by using one CAN as a catalyst for chance, one CAN to represent the building blocks of massive structures, one CAN to prove that every act of kindness makes a difference.

Teams that enter the competition are challenged to design and build amazing structures out of nothing but cans of food. These structures will be judged in a variety of categories, and remain on exhibit to the public for 10 days in October/November, after which all cans are donated to Long Island Cares, The Harry Chapin Food Bank, it is then distributed to local food pantries to help our Long Island neighbors in need.

Lines & Designs 3D, LLC will again be entering the competition. You can see some of my other designs in the slide show on the right. This year's design is totally inspired by Harmony (my Granddaughter)…it'll take 5,200 cans to build it. You've all been shopping of late and you know first hand how much a single can of food costs. We can't possibly buy all the cans on our own, we need your help. I am asking for donations to buy the cans that we need. We were blessed to get a big infusion of money from GPI (Greenman/Pedersen, Inc) who is sponsoring us this year, so we have a big jump on the amount we need to raise. But it's still out of our reach without your help too.

It's quite a challenge to buy 5,200 cans and it takes a lot time to shop for that many. The sooner we can get shopping the better, so please don't delay! The event and the actual building of the structure takes place October 22, 2014…if it's anything like the summer, it'll be here before we know it.

The exhibit is held at RXR plaza in Uniondale (Directly across from the Nassau Coliseum) Starting October 24 - Nov 5 from 8am to 6pm Monday - Sunday. Cost of admission is a can of food. I would encourage you to come see the exhibit!

Another cool thing about this charity is that 100% of the money you donate will go directly to buying cans of food. When you consider that each of these structures, with their thousands of cans, translates into THOUSANDS of meals, you know your donation will directly touch and effect THOUSANDS of people…That's pretty cool. Please donate!!!!
